Things we admire about what Germans did as their culture crumbled - Smuggle people out. Hide people. Fight like hell and make it look like cooperation so you can do it as long as possible. Keep a good record. Preserve artwork and hide it from destruction. Uphold humanistic values. Refuse and deny.

If you are forced to help them do it slowly and badly and leave a trail of breadcrumbs so it can be undone easily. Embed yourself in their structures and take them down from the inside. Use the information you have to help people who have nothing. Take up their time and attention from the oppressed.

Make it harder for them to organize people. Be impossible to govern. Show up and make it uncomfortable. Speak up. Confuse the issue. Do not cooperate if you can avoid it. Take up as much time and attention as you can safely and systematically do and pull focus from those who cannot escape scrutiny.

Rewatching the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency because the sounds of Africa make me happy and Jill Scott is a goddess and even bad people fund good things once in a while. How to rally and create something new even in a place where it’s not welcome but it is very needed. Overcome adversity with grace.

Am I telling you to basically act like the Weinstein company and make it your work to look like you are empowering women while secretly abusing and profiting off them? I mean in a way. In a way yes. But instead of women it’s fascists. And instead of movies it is real life. And the stakes are high.

The silver lining report. Yes they are taking a sledgehammer to what we built together and that is in some ways tragic and hard to watch. Keep watching. When this is all over and they have sucked the country dry they will walk away. Then we shall rebuild together.

We all knew it wasn’t working the way it was. We just have very different ideas on how to fix it. They will tire of their shiny toy and when that happens we will be ready to swoop in and do the hard work of rebuilding in a new way that is inclusive and takes care of everyone equally. As it should be

Embracing the migration patterns of human beings and fostering the cultural and economic exchange between equals is our path forward. Any economic structure that can’t withstand and sustain human migration is useless. Only in opening borders can we grow and learn from each other, and from our past.
