Landscape
Driving around on a nice day

Where the landscape looks like a painting, a plein air backroad with open land in all directions. None of which is open to the public. Are there even public lands now? Or just land owned by the government. Which is not the same thing.
I drove by a geothermal power plant, the entire valley was closed to the public. I miss the old ways, the wild hot springs, the open moveways where we gathered and traveled and that’s funny because how can you miss what you’ve never known?
Rivers, veins, migration of peoples along lines determined by the movement. Directions and cycles and seasons with purpose and meaning. Living close to the land, the natural rhythm of life.
I drove along a different way, went around. Tried to stop at an old watering hole but it was a vegan hot spot now. I ate their vegetables and drank their wine. It was filling and I am following my heart, and my belly, and I’m letting the wind steer.
My dog is my faithful companion, her needs keep me outside, away from screens, active in a different way. I am connected to her and she to me. I’ve never owned a dog before. She is a funny girl. I’m glad she is friendly and doesn’t try to chase after cars. People smile at her funny smile. I think that’s how we look alike.
You know how people say that dogs and their owners look alike, well I was trying to see it. Like we don’t really. But then I saw it. She has resting bitch face like me.
Then she smiles, and her whole face transforms into a transmission of joy.
See? That’s me too! Same same. She is for sure my dog.
