Dreams Become Reality

My daughter is starting grad school today
She worked so hard to get here
So much planning and dreaming and working
And I am so so proud of her
.
She wants to become a therapist
My sister drove her
To her first class
So she didn’t have to take the bus
Her apartment will be ready next week
She found a room
In a shared house
Near campus
.
Her confidence and her hesitation
Always nervous for new things
Excited and nervous
She’s self motivated
And beautiful
She feels
Like home
.
So different from me so
Aware of others and avoiding
The last few minutes a restaurant is open
She hates being late
For the same reasons
Inconveniencing someone
Being too, noticed
Asking for too much
She wants to blend in
.
But also be seen
Who doesn’t want to feel
Seen
And heard and
Witnessed
Like there is at least one person who knows and gets it
And that can be enough
Sometimes
When it’s quiet and still and not lonely just
Alone
Noticing who notices
.
Named after some pretty strong women
On both sides
Two families intersecting
The proud fierce females
That came before
Probably dreamed of us
.
Hats and sunscreen and
Hydration
Somehow love and care and
Food
All jumbled up
Feelings are shared politely
Divided up equally and
Portioned out at low volume
With a strong sauce
And a lot of simmering
.
Now we drink wine
And bubbly bubbles
So civilized in our
Broken
Family gatherings are free
For some
Others are avoided or
Carefully scheduled
Managed
Keeping the two
Sides?
Separate
For maximum effect
.
Some people eat tar
Because they are deficient
In a vitamin or
Mineral
Their body craves
More
And the smell entices them
To eat the inedible
Hope to absorb
Pull in some aspect
Let it marrow the bones
And juice the joints up
For a few dances
One more farm
And a hand
Off or up or
Out
