Clearly

Ok so I’m a bit at a loss for words. While I’m processing here is a new series for you. Poems that ended up as lyrics. Lyrics that are poetic. Some of my favorite selections from the archive. Today I give you Clearly, a set of lyrics that came out all in one piece when I heard the bass part. It’s always interesting when things arrive fully formed.

This is a recording of the song I am not singing lead on this one, but I do show up in the background a bit.

Lazy hazy days of summer

Drifty dustmote floating by

Sinking in the swimming of a pool hole

In the last of light is growing high

Yoo-hoo

Far straining settled sits solid

Once as the gap grows light

All in the day

All in the way I write

Yoo-hoo

Light muted by shade is easier to swallow

My body needs you to grow

Inch by inch I’m coloring your dress

Until I’m readier to play

I’ll store you in leaves of the books that I write

Keeping you close to my heart at night

And the wisdom you bring me through all of my years

Sweetens my soul and helps me to see clearly

You who, you’re the one who dreams the dream

You, keeper of the keeping

Selecting the time, the rhythm and the rhyme

To all the good I’m collecting

You who, you’re the one who dreams the dream

You, keeper of the keeping
